The Great Snowstorm of 2002

It does not snow very often in Athens. In fact it hadn't snowed in about 15 years. We were downtown staying at the Attalos hotel and heard that there was a blizzard but except for a few flurries and some rain we did not know what all the fuss was about. We went out to dinner like we always do and Psiri was surprisingly quiet. We did not realize that even though it was barely snowing downtown, in the suburbs just a mile or two away it was snowing like Alaska.

We woke up the next day to find a fine layer of snow on the ground and the hill of the Acropolis and Mount Lykavettos completely white. But I think I will just let the pictures tell the story. As I said...it does not snow very often and it is doubtful that you will ever see it but Athens is one town that looks good in snow. So take the Athens snow tour... Next
