What's Happening This Summer in Athens

Every summer Athens comes alive with musical and theatrical events and you never know who is going to show up to play. From Jethro Tull to The London Philharmonic to Iggy and the Stooges or even Leonard Cohen and Vanilla Fudge, the indoor and outdoor theaters are some of the best places in the world to see a performance. Here are some of the bigger shows going on this summer. This summer there are a few big names like Nick Cave who is worshipped in Greece, Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, a bunch of heavy metal bands that can't buy a gig elsewhere but will sell out in Athens, and the return of Leonard Cohen who should be doing a concert every winter at Megaron so adults can sit in a nice comfortable theater, but instead is joining the summer roster of groups like Judas Priest, Metallica, Def Leppard and Iron Maiden at the Rockwave Festival.

This summer Athens is hosting the European Music Day from June 16-21. There will be over 100 free open air concerts all over Athens and suburbs.
